Promises, promises…

Have you ever known someone who told you everything you wanted to hear and then delivers nothing? Kind of like the used car salesman. They all talk a good game but then when your standing there and the car is not moving that warranty you were talked into doesn’t cover any of it!

Well Heavenly Father doesn’t work like that. When he promises something it will happen. I can’t help but think of the most patient person in the Bible, Sarah!! She was an old woman when she conceived and bare Isaac. In her patience was the power of God manifest. It made her who she needed to become. However, the timeline might not be what she had in mind, I’m sure I would not have enjoyed that challenge. Heavenly Father knows everything, and he knows when the time is right and when it is not right. Isaac had to be born when he needed to be born not when she would have preferred.

When we moved back to Florida my husband couldn’t find a job where “we” wanted to live. He found a job 60 miles away. So we went looking closer to there. We found a house and unbeknownst to us until the last two weeks it was a short sale. We were the highest bidder but it was still a long process, like 4 months. Many times I was ready to just run back up to where I wanted to be, but we stayed around. This was at the time when the government went into a shutdown. We were set to close and the contract stipulated the terms and we were in a bind. We couldn’t close!! I knew this is where we were supposed to be and although very scary we managed to get this closed after the shut down was over. It was NOT how we planned it. The really frustrating part was we weren’t allowed to get the keys for 3 days after closing, another thing we were not told until the very end!! The realtor gave them to us anyway. Many tears and questions during that whole time period.

Flash forward a few years and we had to move back to where we wanted to be. My son was having serious health issues and needed rides because he couldn’t drive at the time. We listed the house and sold it fairly quickly. Closing was all set. The house fell out of financing with about two weeks to go. Ok, they said they could get it done quickly. We were ok with that. Did it happen, NO!! Did I expect it? not when they said!! They promised they could get it done by the end of June, they promised a week later, another week later, all the time we are carrying penalties and points on all of this! It still went on longer than I imagined it would! The house we were trying to buy the people were getting frustrated with waiting and threatened to pull out the next time. Well it closed by the end of July and then it was disgusting, they had left hair in the shower drain the carpets were atrocious, (however we were pulling the carpets up anyway). My realtor got me a cleaning lady to clean it all up. So many promises, so many not fulfilled! Yes we ended up in the house but certainly not on time and certainly not how we planned it.

The point of this is when you feel and know something is right and you have prayed about it and followed the spirit, then there is no need to worry about it. When you know, you know!! Is this hard to do? Yes!! This is where looking to Heavenly Father is essential. I am sure Sarah had given up on ever having a child, I believe she was in her 90’s according to the account I read. What is important is to trust in him and his time line. If I learned one thing out of all of this its that Heavenly Father usually has a slightly different sense of timing than we do, for His own purposes. He will put us where he needs us to be and around who he needs us by and always at the right time for the best effect. He fulfills all of his promises. We are the short sighted ones who see these things and think we know the timeline, we don’t!!!
