Listening

“Will we follow the unreliable voices advocated by the world, or will we do the work required to allow our Father’s voice to guide us in our decisions and protect us from danger? The more diligently we seek His voice, the easier it becomes to hear. It is not that His voice gets louder but that our ability to hear it has increased.” David P. Homer. When we listen do we really listen or do we just think things through, and plan accordingly? I know what I know but I want to know what God knows. If we never slow down long enough to hear it then we miss out on what He knows. I pray and read scriptures every day. I struggle with things all the time. I’ve tried the be still thing. I don’t think I was equipped with enough patience though. Have you ever noticed that when you are out in nature how you can totally relax? That is what is being still. Watching the water flow downstream and the birds and other animals as they do their thing. At least twice in my life I have had an important conversation with someone who is over me and I had to remain calm during. I managed it, and if you really know me you know how difficult that was for me. However, I was able to control myself in the situation when I should have come out in my savage beast mode. When everything at that point in my life felt that it was on the line. The second time it happened to me I saw it coming, saw it for what it was and decided that I was going to be relaxed. I was so completely relaxed that it seemed as if it was a day at the beach. When in actuality it was my job that was on the line. My livelihood was in danger, because I chose to be relaxed I was able to feel the spirit and know what to do and say rather than come out with both barrels blazing because of the unfairness of what was happening. I impressed even myself that day. The one voice that can give us hope and help is peaceful, not anxious. We can make ourselves anxious if it is something that we don’t want to do. Like just be still when you don’t know if you should take action. The voice wasn’t loud although I have had experiences where it was much louder, however that is because of the situation at the time. This time I needed to be relaxed so it was gentle and peaceful yet powerful. If you need a memory to help you know what that feels like, remember when you heard or sung a lullaby or when you were on a boat or by some water and everything was still, that is what relaxed is. That is when you can feel the spirit whisper. When we hear it, we need to follow what it says. So that we can have more of it’s guidance in our life, it won’t come to you unless you listen and follow what it says.
