I know much like me you have read the story of Peter walking on water and we visualize him walking on water. Amazing!! But don’t you secretly like judge the man? You know how could he not continue forward; Christ is in front of you we yell at him in our heads. Well, guess what? We are all like him at times. Yes, he was distracted by the wind and the waves. Maybe he wasn’t a great swimmer and he was very well aware of that fact. Maybe he thought of how deep the water was and with all the wind and the waves, he would easily drown. Yet he had the savior directly in front of him but averted his thoughts. We all do that!! How many times a day?? Do we sit there and worry about a bill that needs to be paid? or how much money you might get paid? or a child who is ill. That’s what averting your eyes is. Especially when things don’t seem to be working out. How about when you are sitting in traffic and somebody cuts you off?? What’s your first thought in that situation? That is averting your eyes. Every thought should be focused on him. Then every action that comes will reflect that focus. “Our focus must be riveted on the Savior and his gospel, it is mentally rigorous to strive to look to Him in every thought.” Russell M. Nelson, I couldn’t have said it better myself.
